US May Seek New Multilateral Nuke Talks

The United States is reportedly considering seeking a new format for multilateral dialogue with North Korea if Pyongyang refuses to return to the six-party nuclear talks.

Quoting diplomatic sources, Washington-based Radio Free Asia reported Wednesday that a senior U.S. official mentioned a need to seek a new form of multilateral talks rather than launching bilateral talks with Pyongyang.

The U.S. official reportedly made the remarks during his meeting with Huh Chul, a director general at the South Korean Foreign Ministry late late month.

The U.S. official also said that South Korea’s participation would be essential in any future multilateral dialogue, regardless of its form.

Huh visited the U.S. on April 27th to meet with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Alexander Arvizu.
