US Slashes Budget for NK Energy Aid

The U.S. House of Representatives has slashed its energy aid budget for North Korea citing Pyongyang’s refusal to abide by a series of six-way denuclearization agreements.

The House Appropriations Committee decided in a general meeting Friday to cut all of the more than 100 million dollars earmarked for the North.
The committee cited as reasons the North's April fifth missile launch, its boycott of the six-way nuclear talks, its push to restart its nuclear facilities and its detention of two American journalists.

The budget had been allocated for energy aid for the North and to help the communist country disable its nuclear facilities and scrap its nuclear program.

The U.S. said it will consider reviving the budget if the North returns to the multilateral nuclear talks and adheres to six-party agreements.
