South Korean diplomatic missions abroad have set up memorial sites for late former president Roh Moo-hyun.

Mourners paid their respects to Roh early Monday at memorial sites arranged at the Korean Embassy in Los Angeles and the Consulate General in New York.

Ambassador to the U.S., Han Duk-soo, who served as prime minister during the Roh administration, expressed grief over Roh’s death. He said Roh will be remembered as a president that made difficult decisions on South Korea-U.S. ties and took keen interest in the socially vulnerable.

Memorial sites for the late president are being set up at diplomatic missions all around the world. The sites will be open until Thursday, one day before Roh’s funeral takes place.

In a separate move, Korean-American groups set up their own altars in Washington, New York and Los Angeles, all of which house large Korean communities.
