'US Will Not Give in to NK Brinksmanship'

The White House has downplayed North Korea's recent threats against South Korea.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Wednesday that the North is merely attempting to get attention by threatening to abandon the truce that ended the Korean War and launch a military attack against the South.

Gibbs said the U.S. will not submit to Pyongyang’s attempt, which, he says, will only add to North Korea’s isolation.

Calling the North’s latest threats "bluster,” Gibbs added that the North has threatened to end the armistice many times in past decades but the peace has held.

At the U.S. State Department, spokesman Ian Kelly called on the North to refrain from provocative statements and to uphold its commitments and abide by its international obligations.

Kelly also declined to comment on reports that the North has restarted its main nuclear reactor in Yongbyon.
