Japanese media say the United States has come up with a draft of a five-clause U.N. resolution denouncing North Korea’s recent nuclear test.
Quoting diplomatic sources, Japanese media said Thursday that the draft resolution bans U.N. members from engaging in financial transactions with the North and from providing non-humanitarian aid.
The draft also makes inspections of shipments of cargo going to and from North Korea mandatory, and bans U.N. members from engaging in any type of arms trade with the North.
Japanese media said that although the new resolution is expected to include stronger wording than the 2006 version that placed sanctions on Pyongyang, no additional sanctions are expected to be included.
The media outlets said that in a separate move, Japan is seeking to independently place a full ban on the export of all materials to the North as an additional sanction on the communist state.
