A U.S. daily says South Korea will likely have increased access to information on North Korean ships suspected of carrying missiles or other weapons of mass destruction.

The Washington Post quoted a Japanese official as saying that the U.S., Japan and other countries will likely give South Korea increased access to related information as part of its full membership in the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI).

Seoul had been reluctant to join the PSI over fears of worsening already chilly ties with North Korea. But the South announced its decision to fully join the interdiction effort following the North’s second test of a nuclear device in three years on Monday.
