U.S. Senator John Kerry says China will support U.N. Security Council action on North Korea‘s recent nuclear test.

Kerry told journalists in Beijing after meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi that China agrees with the U.S. that North Korea's recent actions were wrong and it must face the consequences.

Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, added that China will support what he called "measured response" that is being negotiated at the United Nations.

The senator also said North Korea's nuclear test further isolates the reclusive state from the international community, strongly urging Pyongyang to return to the six-party talks.
