'US, Japan Draft New Resolution on NK'

A Japanese daily says the United States and Japan have jointly drawn up a draft of a new U.N. resolution sanctioning North Korea for its Monday test of a nuclear device.

The Yomiuri Shimbun quoted sources in New York on Friday as saying the draft has been distributed to South Korea, Russia and China.

The daily said the new draft enforces and expands sanctions laid out by U.N. Resolution 1718, which was adopted in response to North Korea’s first nuclear test in October of 2006. According to the report, the new draft seeks to ban the import and export of all arms and make mandatory the inspection of cargo coming in and out of the communist state.

The draft also reportedly seeks increased restrictions on the North's financial and banking relations with the rest of the world and aims to ban the provision of nonhumanitarian aid to the North.
