A U.S. delegation touring the member countries of the six-way nuclear talks will visit Japan on Monday.

Headed by Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, the U.S. delegation will meet with Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone and Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada on Monday. The officials will discuss North Korea’s second nuclear test and signs suggesting that the North is preparing to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile.

The U.S. officials also plan to discuss the U.N. Security Council’s efforts to adopt a new resolution denouncing North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and ways to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

The U.S. delegation is scheduled to visit South Korea on Tuesday before heading to China and Russia for talks.

U.S. special envoy on North Korea Stephen Bosworth and Stuart Levy, the Treasury Department’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, will be accompanying Steinberg.
