US Delegation to Visit Seoul to Discuss NK Nuke

A high-level U.S. delegation will arrive in Seoul on Tuesday to discuss the North Korean nuclear issue.

The delegation led by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg is touring members of the six-way nuclear talks.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Moon Tae-young said the delegates will meet with Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and senior presidential security adviser Kim Sung-hwan to discuss countermeasures against Pyongyang’s recent nuclear test.

Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart Levey is among the delegates, indicating the two sides may discuss financial sanctions against the North in the wake of its recent nuclear test.

But a South Korean official said Washington is focused on sanctions through the United Nations Security Council for now, and thus talks about financial sanctions by the United States may be premature.
