Korea-ASEAN Summit to Close Tuesday

A special summit held to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of ties between South Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will come to an end on Tuesday.

On the last day of the summit on the Korean resort island of Jeju, participants will reaffirm the need for a joint regional measure to tackle the global financial crisis. They will also discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the areas of climate change and green growth.

After wrapping up discussions, participants will attend a ceremony where a South Korea-ASEAN free trade agreement will be signed. The gathering will then come to an end with participants issuing a joint statement and holding a news conference.

Also on Tuesday, President Lee Myung-bak will hold separate summit talks with leaders from Malaysia and Myanmar.
