Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan says he hopes a new U.N. Security Council Resolution sanctioning North Korea will be adopted within this week.
Yu, who is currently visiting the United States, said Friday that a swift adoption of the resolution would enable the international community to draw up appropriate measures on the North’s recent provocative actions.
Mr. Yu said that one or two more North Korean firms are likely to be included on the U.N. Sanction Committee’s list of entities that will be subject to sanctions. Earlier in April, the U.N. committee named three North Korean entities that will face U.N. sanctions in the wake of its April fifth rocket launch.
On discussions at the Security Council over the adoption of a new resolution against the North, Yu said China and Russia have raised issue with efforts by the U.S. and Japan to strengthen the inspection of cargo coming in and out of the communist state.
Yu is scheduled to return home on Sunday after meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
