Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop,” is dead at the age of 50.

At a news conference Thursday in Los Angeles, Jackson's brother, Jermaine Jackson, said the music icon died after showing symptoms of a heart attack.

A Los Angeles Fire Department official said that emergency responders received a call from Jackson's home at 12:21 pm Thursday, local time.

According to paramedics, Jackson was not breathing when they arrived at his rented mansion and their efforts to resuscitate him failed.

The singer, songwriter and dancer was preparing to launch a comeback concert series in London next month.
