US Creates Interagency Team on NK Sanctions

The United States has reportedly set up an interagency team to implement sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council against North Korea.

A high-ranking U.S. official said that Philip Goldberg, who has served as U.S. ambassador to Bolivia, will lead the team. The official added that Goldberg is expected to visit Beijing to discuss North Korean issues.

Meanwhile, U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters that Goldberg has been appointed to lead an interagency effort to implement U.N. Security Council Resolutions 1874 and 1718.

The spokesman did not make any announcement regarding the U.S. delegation’s travel, but Goldberg’s itinerary is expected to include Korea, Japan and China.
