The U.N. Security Council has expanded its list of North Korean entities, goods and individuals that will be subject to sanctions for their involvement in nuclear and missile activities.
The council on Thursday added five individuals and five new organizations to its sanctions list that was drawn up in line with a June 12th resolution that responded to the North’s two nuclear tests.
The five individuals who will be subject to travel bans and asset freezes are Ri Je-son, head of the North's General Bureau of Atomic Energy and Hwang Sok-hwa, a director of the agency; Ri Hong-sup at the Yongbyon nuclear research center; Namchongang Trading Corporation director Yun Ho-jin; and Han Yu-ro, director of Korea Ryongaksan General Trading Corporation.
The sanctioned entities include the North’s General Bureau of Atomic Energy and four trading companies : the Namchongang Trading Corporation, the Korean Tangun Trading Corporation, the Korea Hyoksin Trading Corporation and Iran-based Hong Kong Electronics.
The council also banned imports into the communist state of graphite for electrical discharge machining and aramid fiber, both of which are used to produce missiles.
The world organization said it will continue to hold discussions on banning imports of weapons-related materials into the North.
