Nonaligned Movement Summit Ends in Egypt

Nonaligned Movement countries wrapped up their 15th summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Thursday by adopting a joint declaration pledging a concerted effort to confront terrorism.

The participants did not, however, include a clause on affairs related to the Korean Peninsula for the first time in 34 years.

Normally, the movement's declarations contain a clause on the Korean Peninsula that heavily represent the stances of North Korea.

South Korean ambassador to the U.N. Park In-kuk said the omission of the Korean Peninsula clause shows that the North has lost support from the member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The organization of 118 nonaligned nations was established in 1955 by Egypt, India and Yugoslavia.

North Korea became a full member in 1975 and South Korea has taken part in the movement as a guest since 1997.
