U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has hinted that Washington is willing to discuss normalization of relations with North Korea if Pyongyang agrees to irreversible denuclearization.
Clinton told reporters at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum in Phuket, Thailand, Wednesday that if Pyongyang agrees to irreversible denuclearization, the United States and its partners will move forward with a package of incentives and opportunities, including a possible normalization of relations.
Clinton added that the U.S., South Korea, China and Russia share the goal of seeking North Korea’s irreversible denuclearization.
She said the U.S. does not intend to reward North Korea just for returning to the negotiating table, adding that unless it returns to discussions, the communist state will face international isolation and the unrelenting pressure of global sanctions.
