US: Talks with NK Possible Only in Multilateral Context

The United States is urging North Korea to live up to the agreements it made in a September 2005 six-party agreement.

In a daily press briefing Monday, U.S. State Department Spokesman Ian Kelly said Washington is open to bilateral dialogue with the North, but only in the context of the six-party talks.

He also cited Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as saying that Washington is not going to reward the North Koreans by agreeing to meet with them without the North living up to the agreements laid out in the 2005 joint statement.

He said the U.S. is willing to meet within the six-party context and that within that context the U.S. could have bilateral discussions with the North.
