A U.S. delegation will visit Russia next week for talks on the implementation of U.N. Security Council sanctions on North Korea.

An official at the U.S. State Department said Thursday that a U.S. delegation will visit Russia on Monday to meet with Russia’s top foreign policy officials to discuss the issue. The delegation will be led by Philip Goldberg, the State Department's point man on coordinating implementation of the sanctions.

The official added that the delegation plans to visit other Asian nations in mid-August but did not elaborate on the destinations.

The U.S. delegation’s visit to Russia comes as the Obama administration has vowed to boost containment policies on the North until it pledges to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
