'No Decision Made on NK's Designation as Terror Sponsor'

The U.S. State Department says no decision has been made on whether to list North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Assistant Secretary of State Philip Crowley told a news briefing Saturday that the U.S. will continue to evaluate North Korea in light of recent provocative moves, which include a nuclear test and missile launches.

Crowley said an extensive legal review is required to determine whether a country is removed from or added to the terrorism sponsor list.

His remarks reiterate the U.S. stance that putting North Korea back on the terrorism list after its removal last October remains a possibility.

Crowley also denied a report by Japan's Mainichi Shimbun that North Korea had invited Special Representative Stephen Bosworth and Ambassador Sung Kim to the communist state to discuss the release of two American journalists detained by the North.
