US Conducts Missile Interception Test in Pacific

The U.S. has successfully conducted a ballistic missile interception test in the Pacific Ocean.

The U.S. Defense Department revealed clips of the missile interception on Saturday.

The clips show the Aegis ballistic missile defense-equipped ship USS Hopper firing an interceptor missile, successfully taking out a sub-scale short-range ballistic missile.

The target, launched from a U.S. test facility in Hawaii, was intercepted 160 kilometers from the launch site.

Four minutes elapsed between the interceptor’s launch and the taking out of the target, showing a remarkable improvement in U.S. missile interception technology.

The U.S. says it has conducted 23 missile interception tests and succeeded in 19. It has 18 Aegis-class destroyers equipped with ballistic missile defense systems.
