A Japanese daily says South Korea's development of a space rocket may provoke North Korea.

The Asahi Shimbun says that if Seoul's first domestically produced space rocket, the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1(KSLV-1), is successfully launched into orbit on August eleventh as planned, the move could provoke North Korea --- a prospect, the paper says, is putting the international community on heightened alert.

Asahi also said that conservative lawmakers and military officials of South Korea have requested the revision of a bilateral missile accord with the United States which bans Seoul from developing missiles with a range over 300 kilometers. The paper says Seoul is looking to have the limit increased to 700 kilometers.
