World leaders are continuing to express their condolences over the death of former President Kim Dae-jung.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva paid his respects to the former president in a letter to President Lee Myung-bak.

The Brazilian president said Kim’s “Sunshine” engagement policy toward North Korea expanded inter-Korean exchanges and left an important historical landmark on the Korean Peninsula.

Jordan’s King Abdullah the Second also expressed his condolences in a message to President Lee Myung-bak.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Seoul James Laney visited a memorial altar for Kim set up in Atlanta and expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former president.

Laney said he lost a friend he loved and respected, while South Korea lost a great leader and a dauntless guardian of democracy.
