Foreign Delegations to Attend KDJ Funeral

A U.S. delegation will arrive in Seoul on Saturday to pay respects to late former President Kim Dae-jung.

The delegation led by former State Secretary Madeleine Albright consists of ten former and incumbent U.S. government officials including U.S. special envoy on North Korea Stephen Bosworth.

Most of the U.S. delegates have been picked due to their strong support for Kim’s “Sunshine” engagement policy toward North Korea or their involvement in Washington-Pyongyang policymaking.

China will also send an eleven-member delegation led by former Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan to pay respects at the funeral for the late ex-president.

Japan will also dispatch a condolence delegation led by former speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, Yohei Kono.

In total, eleven countries have announced plans to send delegations to the funeral.
