A survey says about 63 percent of newly elected Japanese lawmakers support granting local-level suffrage to permanent foreign residents.

The Mindan Sinmun, a daily published by a pro-South Korea association for Korean residents in Japan, conducted the survey of 397 lawmakers.

The results showed 250 respondents replied in favor of foreigners’ suffrage in local elections.

Mindan president Chung Jin said the August 30th election opened new horizons for his organization’s ongoing pursuit of the suffrage movement.
