'NK Weapons Departed for Iran after Nuke Test'

The head of an international freight-forwarding firm says North Korea shipped containers reportedly carrying weapons out of Nampo Port on May 30th, five days after Pyongyang conducted a second nuclear test.

According to Mario Carniglia, the head of the Italian firm “Otim” that handled the delivery, the cargo stopped in the Chinese cities of Dalian and Shanghai and was transferred to the Australian-flagged “ANL Australia” cargo ship immediately after the U.N. Security Council approved resolution 1874.

The containers then headed for Iran when they were seized by the United Arab Emirates on July 22nd.

North Korea has made no demand for the return or resumed delivery of the seized cargo.

The UAE is discussing with the U.N. Sanctions Committee how to deal with the cargo.

Observers say the cargo, which reportedly consists of rocket launchers and munitions, will most likely be destroyed.
