Japan’s Asahi Shimbun says North Korea will likely send its parliamentary leader, Kim Yong-nam, to Beijing as a special envoy to celebrate China’s 60th national founding day on October first.

According to the Japanese daily, a senior North Korean official told a South Korean nongovernmental organization official of Kim’s visit plans.

The North Korean official said Kim is hoping for a bilateral discussion with the U.S. at the mediation of China during his stay in Beijing.

The Japanese newspaper said the North wants to hold talks with South Korea, the U.S., China and Japan some time after October.
