A Brazilian newspaper says North Korea trained Brazilian leftist guerillas in the early 1970s.

The daily quoted former members of the Popular Revolutionary Vanguard as saying that eleven of the insurgents were trained at a camp near Pyongyang in 1971.

The Brazilian guerillas were taught ambush tactics and weapons operations from three North Korean instructors for five months.

Officially formed in March 1968, the armed organization fought against the military dictatorship that ruled the Latin American country from 1964 until 1985.
