US: Dispute with China Won't Affect NK Nuke Issue

The White House says a U.S. dispute with China over tire tariffs will not affect efforts to resolve North Korea’s nuclear issue.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Monday that the U.S. has many relationships throughout the world and that disagreements may emerge about trade actions from time to time.

Gibbs said he doesn’t believe the current dispute will cause the United States and China to get off track in issues related to global matters.

Gibbs also said that the U.S. believes China has been an extremely constructive partner in reiterating the obligations that the North has itself signed up for in terms of its nuclear standoff.

Earlier on Monday, China filed a complaint before the World Trade Organization over higher tariffs on U.S. imports of Chinese-made tires, saying the U.S. move violated free-trade rules.
