'US Deputy State Secretary to Tour Asia This Month'

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, who oversees the Obama administration’s North Korea policy, will embark on a tour of Asia later this month.

A diplomatic source says Steinberg plans to visit South Korea, Japan and China, who are all members of the six-nation talks on North Korea’s nuclear issue.

Steinberg is expected to discuss with his Asian counterparts ways to resume the six-way talks and also a proposed round of bilateral talks between the U.S. and North Korea.

The source said a detailed timetable for his trip has yet to be announced.

Steinberg last toured the three Asian states in June, together with U.S. special envoy on North Korea Stephen Bosworth and U.S. Treasury Deputy Secretary Stuart Levey.
