The United States has decided to place a limited ban on the provision of funds to eight countries, including North Korea, for their failure to prevent human trafficking.
In a presidential determination released Tuesday, the White House announced that in line with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, the U.S. is not to provide certain funding for eight countries --- including North Korea, Zimbabwe, Myanmar and Cuba --- during fiscal year 2010.
The determination said that provision of funding will be prohibited to such countries until they comply with the minimum standards or make significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with the trafficking act.
Earlier in June, the U.S. again put North Korea on its human trafficking watch list. The State Department had North Korea in its worst-offender category, reserved for countries making no attempt to address human trafficking.
