The crew of a Korean cargo ship that had been detained in Belgium since last December due to unpaid debts has been set free.

The South Korean embassy in Belgium says the Korean logistics firm owning the ship auctioned off the detained 28-thousand-ton vessel last month and will pay off its debt with the money earned from the sale.

The nine crew members, five Koreans and four Filipinos, left Belgium Thursday.

The ship was detained at the Port of Ghent.
