S.Korea, China Agree on Fishing Quota

South Korea and China have agreed to gradually cut back on fishing in each other’s exclusive economic zones.

In a bilateral maritime meeting in Dalian, China, the two sides agreed to place a ceiling on the number of fishing boats allowed to operate in the other country's EEZ to 16-hundred.

They will also limit fishing to a total allowable catch of 60-thousand tons each by 2013.

Currently, China operates two-thousand more fishing boats in South Korea’s EEZ and hauls in a catch some two-thousand tons larger than South Korea does in Chinese waters.
