Obama Embarks on First Asia Trip

U.S. President Barack Obama has embarked on his first presidential visit to Asia, which will bring him to Japan, Singapore, China and South Korea.

Obama will first visit Japan for a summit with Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama before traveling to Singapore on Sunday to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

On Monday, Obama will fly to China for a two-day visit that includes a meeting with President Hu Jintao, after which he will arrive in South Korea on Wednesday night.

Obama and President Lee Myung-bak will hold a summit and a joint news conference on Thursday.

The U.S. president will also visit the military bases of U.S. forces stationed on the Korean Peninsula during his stay.
