11.2% of Foreign Students at US Universities are Korean

The number of Korean students studying at U.S. universities increased again last year to hit a record figure.

The U.S. Institute of International Education surveyed three-thousand U.S. universities, colleges and graduate schools for the 2008-2009 academic year. The number of Koreans represented in total enrollment increased eight-point-six percent to over 75-thousand.

Koreans accounted for eleven-point-two percent of all foreign students in the U.S., up from a record eleven-point-one percent the previous year.

By aggregate number of students, Koreans make up the third biggest group, following the 103-thousand Indians and 98-thousand Chinese studying in the U.S.

About five percent of all foreign students are Korean in the states of New York, California, Washington and Utah. The number stands at nearly 30 percent in Nevada.
