US, China Call for Resumption of Six-Party Talks

U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao are calling for the resumption of the long-stalled six-party nuclear talks.

Obama and Hu held a bilateral summit on Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During their joint news conference after the summit, the two leaders said they agreed on the need to restart the multinational dialogue to rid North Korea of its nuclear program.

Obama said Pyongyang must choose whether to remain in isolation from the international community or give up its nuclear program.

Hu said the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue through dialogue would be in the best interests of all concerned parties. He said the multilateral effort is essential to peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
