Foreign Media Report on Lee-Obama Summit

U.S. and Japanese news outlets have reported on the results of summit talks between President Lee Myung-bak and U.S. President Barack Obama.

The reports said the two sides reconfirmed their alliance and will to denuclearize North Korea.

The New York Times said Obama’s visit to Seoul was the last and easiest leg of his Asia trip, noting Lee’s hospitality.

The Wall Street Journal reported the U.S. president promised to make efforts to ratify the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.

Japan’s public broadcaster and Kyodo News said Lee and Obama agreed to push for Lee’s grand bargain proposal aimed at the North’s complete denuclearization. The Japanese news outlets described the bilateral alliance as solid.

A Japanese daily, Asahi Shimbun, also reported the two leaders will further strengthen ties to resolve regional issues concerning North Korea and Afghanistan and to realize Obama’s vision of a nuclear-free world.
