Six South Korean tourists were wounded on the Pacific resort island of Saipan during a daytime attack by an unidentified gunman Friday morning.

A Foreign Ministry official said Friday that the assailant fired about ten bullets toward the Koreans at a popular tourist spot in downtown Saipan before running away.

The official said a tourist identified by his family name Park was the most severely wounded of the six but is not in critical condition. He said the other five sustained only slight injuries.

The Saipan Tribune reported later in the day that the gunman proceeded to shoot himself to death after killing four others in two other separate shootings. The identity of the gunman and his motives for the attack remain unknown.
