'Annual Aid of $1Bln Would Defer NK Nuke Dev.'

A renowned U.S. mathematician specializing in game theory says North Korea would most likely postpone its development of nuclear weapons if it receives around one billion dollars in aid annually.

Professor Bruce Bueno de Mesquita of New York University made the remark on Tuesday.

He said that according to his research, if the North receives one to one-point-two billion dollars in aid annually, the North Korean leadership is likely to abide by international agreements.

The Central Intelligence Agency used a game-theory model developed by Mesquita for four years starting in 1982 to assess the political situation in some 30 countries. Mesquita’s model was found to be twice as accurate as traditional methods of analysis.
