Republican Party Urges Swift Ratification of KORUS FTA

The U.S. Republican Party has again called for the swift ratification of the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement (FTA).

Top Republican congressmen, including John Boehner, sent a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday, urging for the prompt ratification of trade pacts with South Korea, Colombia and Panama.

In the letter, Republican legislators said the three trade deals would provide new trade opportunities for the U.S. economy, adding that ratification of the pacts would create jobs without expanding financial deficit levels.

In particular, the lawmakers urged Obama to include a plan to promote the three trade deals when he issues the State of the Union Address early next year.
