The Korea International Cooperation Agency’s (KOICA) office in Guatemala says that it has been working on a project to improve the health of children and expecting mothers in Chimaltenango, Guatemala, since last year.

The agency, which runs Korea's grant aid programs for developing countries, says the project centers on the establishment of a national maternal and child health care center in the state of Chimaltenango and a maternal and child health office in the county of Patzun.

As of last Friday, 51 nurses in Chimaltenango and 96 midwives in Patzun were trained over the course of the previous five months through the maternal and child health-specialized nurse training program

According to the World Health Organization, Guatemala has one of the highest infant mortality rates in Latin America.
