'N.Koreans Asked to Give up Foreign Currency'

A trader doing business with North Korea in Dandong, China, says North Koreans are being pushed by their government to offer up any foreign currency they might have.

The source says foreign currency transactions have nearly died since a recent currency reform that made one-thousand won worth about ten won.

Due to the reform, North Koreans are doing there best to hold on to their foreign currency assets, while the government is asking that U.S. dollar and Chinese Yuan possessions be given to the state.

North Korea is known to have strengthened border customs inspections to block any foreign currency from leaving the country.
