'Plane Hauling Weapons Forced to Land in Thailand'

The “Kommersant” Russian daily says that the Georgian-registered cargo plane suspected of carrying North Korean weapons that landed in Thailand was forced to do so by the Thai Air Force.

The newspaper said that when the cargo plane entered Thai airspace Saturday, two fighter jets belonging to Thailand’s military were already waiting for the plane on a tip from a foreign intelligence agency. The fighter jets then ordered the plane to land.

The report conflicts with the Thai government's previous announcement that the plane made a scheduled stopover in Bangkok for a refueling and landing gear checkup.

Thailand's National Security Council chief Thawil Pliensri said the U.S. took part in the Thai military’s seizure of weapons from the plane.
