The remains of a U.S. serviceman, missing in action from the Korean War, have been identified and returned to his family after 59 years.
The remains of Master Sergeant Silas Wilson were returned to his daughter, Marie Wilson Cleghorn, earlier on Wednesday, making this Christmas an unforgettable one for Cleghorn, who never knew her father.
Wilson died on November 16th 1950. His remains were found during the U.S. military’s excavation work in North Korea’s Unsan County. The military confirmed the remains belonged to Wilson after a forensic anthropological examination and DNA testing. It notified Wilson’s daughter, his only surviving family two weeks ago. She currently resides in Arley, Alabama.
Upon receiving her father’s remain, Cleghorn said that it’s 22 years too late for her mother and eight years too late for her brother, who have both passed. However, she said that for 59 years, she waited for her father.
