Korean War Vets Living in Canada to Receive Allowance

Ethnics Koreans living in Canada who served with U.N. Forces during the Korean War will now receive war veterans’ allowances and other benefits from the Canadian government.

Canada’s Veterans Affairs Minister Greg Thompson and the Korea Veterans Association of Canada have agreed on various benefits Korean Canadians who fought in the Korean War will receive.

Under the agreement, Koreans who have lived in Canada for more than ten years and who fought in the Korean War will receive up to two-thousand dollars per month as well as associated assistance and health benefits.

In the event the beneficiary dies, the benefits will go to the beneficiary’s spouse.

An official at the war veterans association estimated that hundreds of Koreans who live in Canada are likely to benefit from the agreement.
