S. Korean Consortium to Build Reactor in Jordan

The Ministry of Science and Technology says a consortium comprising of Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute and Daewoo Engineering and Construction Co. was selected as the winning bid to build Jordan's first atomic research reactor.

This project involves building a five-megawatt thermal power multipurpose research reactor and radioisotope production facilities by 2014 for Jordan's neutron science research.

The consortium will sign a formal agreement by March at the earliest and build a reactor and radioisotope production facilities at Jordan University for Sciences and Technology, located 70 kilometers from Amman, Jordan’s capital. It will also train operating personnel.

On December fourth last year, Korea was chosen as the prefered negotiating partner in an international bidding to build research reactors in Jordan.
