Members of G-20 nations adopted a joint statement urging international aid for Haiti, which has suffered its worst-ever losses from a massive earthquake.
The joint statement expressed condolences to those killed or injured from the recent earthquake and said that the world’s top 20 advanced and emerging economies plan to make their utmost effort to help Haiti recover, based on international collaboration.
An official at the Korean presidential office said personal representatives of world leaders to the multilateral forum met in Mexico on Thursday, where the Haiti issue was discussed as an emergency agenda. The statement was adopted therafter.
Korean president Lee Myung-bak said Korea, as the only international aid recipient to achieve industrialization and democratization, sincerely expresses its condolences over the disaster. He said in particular, Korea, as host nation of the upcoming G-20 summit, must take an active part in providing support.
