'US Approval of Korea FTA Unlikely This Yr'

Korean lawmakers who are visiting the U.S. forecast negative prospects on the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement which has yet to be endorsed by legislators on either side.

They say the Obama administration is not committed to the FTA and the odds of Congress approving the bill this year are very low.

The group of bipartisan lawmakers who were invited by the Korea Economic Institute to visit the U.S. met with U.S. administration officials and congressmen.

After the meetings, they told reporters that the FTA with Korea is not a top priority on Obama's policy list due to opposition of the trade deal by the automotive industry and congressmen representing their districts.
