A Japanese newspaper says North Korea may be setting up a temporary military command center at a hotel in Mount Baekdu near the border with China in preparation for any contingencies.

Quoting a Hong Kong-based military think tank, the Asahi Shimbun said Thursday that the hotel, located at an altitude of 27-hundred meters, would be highly inaccessible to enemies.

The Japanese daily said the hotel is equipped with a recently renovated helicopter hangar and underground secret passageways that are linked to a nearby airport, railway and road leading to China.

An official from the think tank said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il would flee Pyongyang and use the hotel as a headquarters for a resistance against enemy forces in the case of insurgence, rebellion or a joint attack from South Korea and the U.S.
