Korean Replacement Troops to Depart for Lebanon

A farewell ceremony was held Thursday in Incheon to mark the planned deployment of soldiers who will replace Dongmyeong Unit compatriots serving as U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon in the coming weeks.

The Army’s chief of staff, General Han Min-gu, hosted the event for some one-thousand attendees, including the soldiers, their families and military officials.

The 359-member group that beat out eleven-to-one odds for selection will conduct reconnaissance and surveillance operations and will operate checkpoints in southern Lebanon. It will also support the Lebanese military and conduct civil affairs operations.
